Cochran, Authement in runoff for St. Charles Parish president

Lance Marino re-elected clerk of court

With all precincts reporting, Larry Cochran, D-St.Rose, and Terry Authement, R-Boutte, will be in a runoff for St. Charles Parish president on Nov. 21, and Lance Marino, R-Norco, has been re-elected as clerk of court.

Cochran took a strong lead and kept it in today’s election primary, finishing with 6,102 votes or 40 percent of the vote. Authment came in second with 3,966 votes or 26 percent of the vote. Opponents John Cornwell, D-Luling, got 2,788 votes or 18 percent of votes cast, and Carolyn K. Schexnaydre, R-Destrehan, 2,226 votes or 14 percent of the vote.

Council District 5 also has a runoff with Bobby J. Ducote, R-St. Rose, with 746 votes or 42 percent of the vote facing opponent Marilyn Bellock, D-St. Rose, 628 votes or 35 percent. Keith Adams, D-St. Rose, only got 407 votes or 23 percent of the vote.

In the clerk of court race, Marino also took a strong lead and won the race by getting 9,664 votes or 66 percent of the vote while opponent C.H. “Sonny” Savoie, D-Paradis, got 5,009.

Other parish council races also were decided:

  • Council at-large Division A: Wendy Benedetto, R-Destrehan, won with 9,463 votes over Erick St. Amant, also R-Destrehan, at 4,233 votes .

  • At-large Division B: Paul Hogan, R-Des Allemands, won with 7,908 votes over Jarvis Lewis, D-Luling, 6,647 votes.

  • Council District 1: Terrell Wilson, D-Hahnville, at 1,599 votes won over Milton Allemand Jr., no party, at 514 votes.

  • Council District 2; Mary Keller Clulee, R-Luling, beat two opponents with 1,355 votes or 57 percent of the vote over Monique Gros, R-Luling, at 869 votes, and Bryce Steinlage, R-Luling, at 160 votes.

  • Council District 3: Dick Gibbs, R-Destrehan, won with 1,387 votes or 58 percent of the vote over Webb Jay IV, R-Destrehan, with 990 votes.

  • Council District 4: William “Billy” Woodruff, R-Des Allemands, won with 1,041 votes or 60 percent of the vote over Oliver Dufrene Jr., D-Paradis, with 692 votes.

  • Council District 6: Traci Ackerman-Fletcher, no party, won with 1,229 votes or 60 percent of the vote over Keith Schexnayder, D-Norco, with 824 votes.

  • Justice of the Peace District 1: Aleshia Smith, D-Hahnville, won the office with 1,162 votes or57 percent of the vote over Edna Campbell Bridges, D-Hahnville, at 874 votes.
