The St. Charles Parish Library will partner with NOLA Games on Wheels to put on games of laser tag at the West Regional Library in Luling on Friday, June 20 at 6 p.m.
No registration is required. The free event is designed for kids and teens ages 10 and up.
The library will also host games at the East Regional Library in Destrehan on Tuesday, July 8 at 2 p.m.; the Paradis Branch on Saturday, July 12 at 2:30 p.m.; the Norco Branch on Saturday, July 26 at 2:30 p.m.; and the St. Rose Branch on Thursday, July 31 at 6:30 p.m.
“Participants will engage in laser tag battles in the library,” said Raven Spizale, the youth services librarian. “NOLA Games on Wheels staff will set up PVC bunkers, and shelters will be stationed around the play area to provide additional obstacles. Several rounds are played, and while participants wait their turn, there will be cold waters to enjoy.”
She said this type of program provides free fun for preteens and teens in a safe environment.
“They get to connect with their friends and family while engaging with the library in a somewhat unconventional way,” Spizale said. “The idea is to have the library be a place of connection and fun for our community. Our hope is that it will leave a lasting impression with them as well as a positive association with the library.”
Spizale said the library has worked with NOLA Games on Wheels for many years.
“We host their video game truck at almost all of our library locations during the summer as well as these laser tag events,” she said.
The library hosted the first laser tag event in 2017 with NOLA Games on Wheels, according to Lauren Campo-Pitz, the assistant director of the library.
“And we’ve had at least one almost every year since then,” Pitz said.
Pitz said sometimes getting people of any age through the library doors is the biggest challenge.
“Events like these encourage them to keep visiting us and to use more of our resources, either for fun or for school,” she said.
Spizale said the library’s goal is for everyone to have a good time and take away a positive experience at the library.
“We are most looking forward to seeing our patrons have fun,” she said. “Participants often get to play several rounds and enjoy switching to different territories within the library. They get to explore the library in a new way.”
