German Coast Beer Co. employees launch parish running club, welcome all skill levels

Once a month, the 310 Run Club meets at a St. Charles Parish park for community, exercise and, of course, a few beers.

Founded in 2025 by Ryan Ulicsni, a head brewer at German Coast Beer Co. in Luling, and Madison Robert, a bartender at the brewery, the run club welcomes runners of all skill levels.

“Anyone is welcome to join,” Robert said. “There is no membership fee and there is no age limit. Whether you’re an experienced runner, someone just getting started, a casual jogger, or even a parent pushing a stroller, you have a place with us.”

Robert said there are about 20 members, including kids. Robert, who runs the club’s social media channels, shares information about upcoming meetups and races on Facebook and Instagram. Anyone who follows along is welcome to show up and join the run.

“Once we decide on a mileage for the day, we head out for the run – but everyone is welcome to run whatever distance they need,” Robert said. “After the run, the kids usually play while the group hangs out, enjoys a beer or two, and shares some snacks. It’s become a great excuse for us to spend time together and catch up with friends while staying active.”

Robert, who is also an elementary school teacher in the parish, said the goal of the club is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where people of all backgrounds and abilities can come together, stay active and encourage another.

“At the end of the day, we’re simply a group that enjoys promoting a healthy, active lifestyle while having fun and building friendships along the way,” she said.

Ulicsni and Robert started the run club to get outside and spend time with friends. Allowing kids to join the club made things easier to schedule. Ulicsni, 30, and his wife, Payton, moved to Luling in 2019 and share a three-year-old daughter, Marigny.  Robert, a Luling native, moved back to Luling from Paradis with her husband, Riley, last year.

“With everyone’s busy schedules and being pulled in different directions, we wanted to make it a priority to come together and hangout,” Robert said. “As the group began running together more often, I took over the Facebook and Instagram accounts to share updates from our runs and see if others in the community would be interested in joining.”

For Robert and Ulicsni, running is a way to relieve stress and clear their minds.

“It also serves as a reminder to appreciate the simple ability to move our bodies and stay active,” Robert said.

Robert said many members of the club train for upcoming races. The club participates in several local races throughout the year, including Run on the Bayou, the St. Charles Parish Bridge Run, the Crescent City Classic and others.

“We want the community to know that anyone is welcome to join for any reason—whether they’re tired of training for a race on their own, looking for motivation to stay active, or simply hoping to get out of the house and spend some time moving with their kids,” she said.
