Destrehan Plantation to host spring festival in March

The Fourth Annual Spring Garden & Pet Show will take place at the historic grounds of Destrehan Plantation, located at 13034 River Road, on March 21-22.

This event is presented in partnership with the LSU AgCenter and Louisiana Master Gardeners and will feature more than 80 vendors offering houseplants, rare varieties, fruit trees, garden art, and pet accessories. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, with an admission fee of $5 per person. Tickets for children aged 5 and under are free.

The weekend schedule includes educational presentations on gardening and wildlife alongside live acoustic performances. Robbie Matherne will perform on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., followed by Peyton Falgoust on Sunday during the same hours. Additionally, guided tours of the plantation home will be available for purchase throughout the day.

Children’s activities include an arts and crafts tent, beekeeping demonstrations by Bee Guyz, LLC, bungee jumping, face painting and storytelling by Mother Goose. A petting zoo will be on-site Saturday only. Sunday features pictures with the Easter Bunny from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and an Easter Egg Hunt starting at 3 p.m.

Well-behaved pets are permitted at the event provided they remain in a stroller, carrying case or on a non-retractable leash.

Melissa Monica, a spokesperson for Destrehan Plantation, said she is most excited to see the show continue growing into a true community gathering place.

“From educational speakers and plant and craft vendors to families and animal lovers, it’s all about bringing people together around gardening, nature, and responsible pet care – and in our fourth year, that energy is stronger than ever,” Monica said.

This year, the show is expanding in both size and experience, Monica said.

“We’re welcoming more plant and craft vendors, expanding the food court with additional ethnic cuisine, and adding more children’s activities, such as bungee jumping and Mother Goose storytelling,” she said. “Each year, we build on what previous visitors loved while adding something new, so returning visitors always have something fresh to discover.”

Monica said the Spring Garden and Pet Show has a meaningful economic and tourism impact on the parish and Destrehan Plantation.

“It draws visitors from across the region to support local vendors, experience the historic grounds, and spend the day in the community,” she said. “This positions the plantation as an active destination, introducing new audiences to the property, encouraging repeat visits, and strengthening partnerships that support long-term preservation.”
