CC Road (LA 628) will be closed at the KCS Railroad from Jan. 26 through March 13 as the parish continues work on Montz I and II Pump Stations, which are the first ever permanent pump stations for Montz.
Francesca Blanchard, a spokesperson for the parish, said Cembell Industries and residents of Vickers Lane can take CC Road south to River Road/Spillway Road. Signage will be in place to warn drivers that the road is closed at the KCS Crossing. Drivers can use Spillway Road or Evangeline Road.
The parish started construction on Montz Pump 1 and 2 last August. Montz 1 is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2026 and Montz II is scheduled for completion in early 2027.

“The combination of these two projects is the largest drainage investment in Montz’s history and will improve pumping capacity by more than 3.5 times the current capacity,” Blanchard said. “The two stations will be integrated in the East Bank West Shore Hurricane Protection Levee System, providing much needed protection for the more than 800 homes, 25 industrial facilities, electrical power plant, church, and fire station in Montz.”
The extended road closure is necessary for the driving of sheet pile, which are sheets of steel that provide a watertight barrier, along the edge of the road, Blanchard said.
“These pump stations are right along CC Road, and we need to close the road since we are working right up against it,” Blanchard said.
Once completed, the two new pumping stations will house nine new pumps. Each station will have an acre of on-site sump storage, plus diesel generators and fuel tanks to keep pumps running without electricity.
The project represents a more than $32 million investment in drainage and flood protection, with $10 million in funding provided by Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. The remainder of the project cost comes from local funds approved by the parish council. Designed by GIS Engineering, LLC, the stations will be constructed by Sealevel Construction, Inc.
