St. Charles Parish Hospital: Quality healthcare in St. Charles Parish

By Austin Reeder, CEO of St. Charles Parish Hospital

As the new chief executive officer of St. Charles Parish Hospital, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for welcoming me into your community.

Since Ochsner Health System assumed a management role at St. Charles Parish Hospital in 2015, we have worked tirelessly with the Hospital Service District to enhance the quality of healthcare available here in St. Charles Parish.

I am honored to have the opportunity to join this dynamic community and continue working toward the goal of providing access to the highest quality of healthcare to its residents.

Today, the St. Charles Parish Hospital team consists of nearly 750 skilled physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals and is continually recruiting top talent to serve our neighbors. We know that the St. Charles Parish community deserves the very best in healthcare and will not settle for anything less.

Through these efforts, we are able to offer such core services as primary care, urology, cardiology, podiatry, nephrology, obstetrics/gynecology, pain management, general surgery, gastroenterology and more. Convenience and easy access are two important features to consider when deciding where to go for your medical needs.

One way that St. Charles Parish Hospital has worked to provide as many access points as possible is through the addition of the Plantation View Medical Offices in Destrehan, providing residents on the East Bank of the Mississippi River with convenient access to much needed specialties including primary care, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology and urology, as well as a convenient new option for their prescription needs at the Ochsner Pharmacy & Wellness location housed in the building.

In addition to increasing access, St. Charles Parish Hospital has also shown a commitment to improving the quality of healthcare in the parish.

In 2016, St. Charles Parish Hospital was awarded with a Stage 7 Award by HIMSS Analytics, having achieved all the steps necessary towards a paperless environment.

This award recognizes our commitment to quality through supporting  information exchange and immediate delivery of patient data to improve processes, quality of care and patient safety.

Another way that we have ensured the highest quality of care for our patients is by upgrading the hospital’s electronic medical record (EMR) to the industry-leading Epic software.  This upgrade greatly expanded the ability of the hospital to coordinate patient care across the entire Ochsner Health System.

This system allows patient information to be securely accessed by all Ochsner providers, meaning that, no matter which Ochsner facility a patient chooses to access, the medical staff at that facility will have full access to the patient’s medical record.

As part of the Ochsner Health System, our patients can have confidence in knowing that their local hospital is part of one of the very best health systems in the country and the world. Ochsner patients come from every parish in Louisiana, each of the 50 states and from over 80 countries around over the globe. And because we have a single, integrated electronic medical record system, our patients seamlessly move throughout our continuum of care.

It is a pleasure to be a part of the St. Charles Parish Hospital Team.  We look forward to continuing to serve St. Charles Parish by providing access to high quality healthcare.
