‘Special Report’ details parish’s accomplishments

By Renee Simpson

The second annual St. Charles Parish Special Report made its debut this week in a mailbox near you.

The expanded 20-page publication takes a detailed look at parish government accomplishments over the past year and a half.  Like last year’s booklet, it offers an analysis of each of Parish President V.J. St. Pierre’s eight goals and outlines the many ‘action steps’ parish leaders have taken to reach them.

This year’s report also focuses on the dedication and accomplishments of the over 400 parish employees, who work day in and day out to keep parish operations running smoothly.

Each goal is given a dedicated page, with a focus on hurricane protection, infrastructure projects, compatible land use and economic diversification.

The report also includes a complete unaudited financial summary showing tax revenue and total expenditures for each parish fund, including Recreation, Roads and Drainage and more.

New this year is an updated chart listing completed, in progress and upcoming infrastructure projects along with their cost and location. There’s also information about upcoming civic projects, including a new community center, public works yard and driver’s license bureau. It also includes a hurricane season preparation pull-out guide.

To view the document online, visit www.stcharlesparish-la.gov. A companion video is being produced for the St. Charles Parish Government Access Channel, Cable Channel 6. Copies are also available at all branches of the St. Charles Parish library.

This public document was produced by the St. Charles Parish Office of Public Information to inform citizens of government affairs and promote economic development efforts. This document will be published at a total cost of $0.27 per copy, not including postage. Twenty-five thousand copies of this document will be published in this first printing at a cost of $6,853. Printing funds were approved by the Parish Council in the 2010 parish operating budget.

Remembering the past

The Public Information Office in September will roll out the second edition of a parish history pamphlet written in 1976.
“St. Charles Parish – A Brief Look at the Past,” penned by Hahnville resident Nancy Tregre Wilson, has been a go-to publication for parish government for many years.

Now, in honor of German-American history month here on the ‘German Coast,’ residents will be able to log on to the parish website to read the detailed account of St. Charles Parish’s colonial and Civil War-ear history, as well as local recipes.

Beginning Sept. 15, one section of the booklet will publish daily until Oct. 12 on the parish website’s history section. It can be found at stcharlesparish-la.gov/ed.

The booklet also has a new modern look and layout. Copies will be available for download at the above address on Sept. 15, and hard copies are available at the St. Charles Parish courthouse or by mail. Send your address to publicinfo@stcharlesgov.net.
