Senate leaders show respect

It was good to see John Boehner and Nancy Pelosi holding hands as they convened the opening of the 112th Congress in Washington last week. And after so many fierce words in the year just past.

It is truly a time for peace-making between Democrats, Republicans and Independents, conservatives, moderates and liberals and everyone else who is supposed to be running our government. Once an official is elected, he or she should become part of our governmental structure elected to serve in their positions with reverence to doing the right things for the people. They should not return to the political wrangling we have seen fulltime in recent years until election time comes again. Then, with some reservations, they can allow themselves to engage in public debate without so much partisanship.

Of course, this probably is not going to happen because those out of office want to get their jobs next time around. So what is the solution?

Maybe Nancy and John can lead the way in guiding our officials to rule the way they should. That is with bipartisanship around every corner of disagreement that will provide the best answers to the problems at hand.

And we the people can help by showing our support for their serious efforts to serve their country in the right way. That is by listening to the other side, respecting their views and accepting them when they offer the best way to serve the people.

Hornets need support
What do the Who Dats do when their beloved Saints lose in their first game of the playoffs? They bow their heads and say “thanks” for a season well-played.

Surely nothing is perfect. But it doesn’t get much better than 11-5 in a pro-football season. And they deserve a rest and time to prepare for the future where their prospects look bright.

The break will give sports fans time to lend support to the Hornets who have to average 14.915 fans at their remaining games to insure that the owners do not  cancel their lease on the New Orleans Arena and head for another state.

Basketball is an exciting, fast-moving sport. And there’s nothing more exciting than seeing a Hornet shoot a three-pointer from mid-court to win at the close of a game. Let’s support them.
