Government projects on the move

By Renee Simpson

Recent council meetings have included numerous contracts to begin engineering or construction work on needed infrastructure projects.

Set to begin engineering are a pump replacement and cover installation at the New Sarpy pump station, an upgrade to the Boutte pump station and replacement of high priority road crossing culverts on the West Bank.
Willowdale Boulevard and Michael Drive have been chosen as the first two crossings needing replacement. As other crossings are identified, they will be added to the contract via task order.

The council also approved a contract with Buchart Horn, Inc. for engineering services associated with the Coronado Park Area Drainage project. The multi-phase project will improve drainage in the Luling subdivision, which has a history of significant street flooding during normal rain events.

The engineer will survey and review the Coronado Park watershed to determine any restrictions or obstructions to storm water conveyance. The firm will then determine the pumping capacity needed to accommodate the area to direct future construction.

The last two weeks have hosted no less than five committee meetings to discuss everything from community boundaries to the West Bank hurricane protection levee.

These can be tough to keep up with, but they’re all being added to the parish Web site for viewing. To see all the recent meetings, visit Channel 6 online at www.stcharlesparish-la.gov.
