Courthouse employees show spirit

By Renee Allemand

Friday’s big game between Hahnville and Destrehan High Schools brought out the fighting spirit of many employed at the St. Charles Parish courthouse.

For the first time in history, the parish president hails from the East Bank. So there was just as much garnet and gray to go around this year as purple and gold.

Parish President V.J. St. Pierre’s Executive Secretary Anedra Coleman, a native of St. Rose and DHS alumnus, kept the day interesting by decorating her office with balloons and handmade signs. The retired Desty Darling dance team member proudly wore her status on the back of a Destrehan High School t-shirt.

Meanwhile, Kim Perret of the personnel office showed up to work wearing a modified Hi-Stepper uniform. Employees everywhere showed off their true colors in this always fierce but friendly yearly rivalry.

Downstairs in the clerk’s office, DHS football mom Marla Mautemps found her work area decorated with a high school favorite – toilet paper. Co-workers covered her desk with HHS paraphernalia, including stuffed tigers, a Hahnville blanket and purple and gold pom poms.  Mautemp’s nameplate was even changed to MauTIGERS.

Destrehan has bragging rights for the next year, and we’re looking for an even bigger display of spirit come 2009.
