Metairie man may have been robbed at Luling gas station before being murdered

A Metairie man may have been robbed at a Birdies gas station in Luling Monday (Jan. 9) then shot to death and his body dumped in Hahnville.

Ryan Dubuc, 28, was shot multiple times and his body found lying on the side of the road near La. Highway 3160 at 9:45 a.m. Plant workers discovered his body near a wastewater treatment plant. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“As far as now, only the shooter is believed to have been present with Mr. Dubuc,” according to St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. James Grimaldi. “The motive is possibly a robbery.”

Detectives are trying to determine if Dubuc was killed at Birdies or another location, Grimaldi said.

Dubuc was last seen alive when he left his home in Metairie around 5:30 a.m. Monday morning and headed to his job in Waggaman.

Grimaldi confirmed detectives are reviewing store video surveillance footage to determine whether Dubuc was robbed at the store and where he was killed. His body was found in an area typically traveled by plant workers and people familiar with the area.

Dubuc’s vehicle, a 2006 GMC Sierra, was reported missing and then found that night stuck in the mud in a sugar cane field in Belle Pointe Subdivision in LaPlace, according to Grimaldi.

Once the truck was found, police asked the public for information about a black male about 6 feet or taller seen walking in the area between 7 to 8 a.m. Monday.

The U.S. Marshal’s Service is assisting the investigation.

Anyone with information about this homicide should contact Det. Thomas Plaisance at (985) 783-1135 or (985) 783-6807.
