Construction worker struck in hit and run accident, fell from bridge

Authorities are searching for a construction worker who was struck in an apparent hit and run incident and fell from the Hale Boggs Bridge Thursday.

According to Monroe Dillon of the Louisiana State Police, at approximately 1 a.m. Thursday morning F-150 truck traveling south on Interstate-10 near the bridge left the roadway and into a construction zone on the right shoulder of the road, sideswiping two vehicles. A construction worker was struck in the incident and was sent over the side of the bridge.

The driver reportedly fled on foot and authorities, including the Coast Guard are searching for him. No other construction workers were struck or injured in the incident, Dillon said.

The worker remained missing as of 5 p.m. Thursday, according to Dillon.
