5-year-old shot, killed in St. Rose

A 5-year-old boy died Saturday afternoon after suffering a gunshot wound inside of a St. Rose home, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Police responded to a 911 call regarding the incident, and once deputies and EMS arrived, they found a child with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. Ochsner Flight Care transported the child to University Medical Center where he passed away.

The incident happened just before 12:30 p.m. at a residence in the 300 block of Mockingbird Lane.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. James Grimaldi said detectives are unsure of the circumstances that led to the shooting and the situation is under investigation. He added a family member was at the residence when the gunshot occurred and is cooperating with the active investigation.
