68-year-old charged with manslaughter after Destrehan shooting

Donald Daughdrill, 68, was arrested Thursday night and charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of 25-year-old Weston Keller in Destrehan.

At 5:09 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a call of a subject shot inside a residence in the  3700 block of Tara Drive. When they arrived they found Keller on the floor with a single gunshot wound.

Medical personnel were unable to revive Keller and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Keller and Daughdrill, who both lived in the same home but were not related, apparently got into an argument over money before the shooting, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. Daughdrill is accused of firing a single shot that struck Keller in the chest.

Those who knew Keller were shocked at his death, taking to social media to write that he was a good young man who was respectful, friendly and inspirational. He was called a friend to all those in the Red Church Subdivision.

Daughdrill, who resides at 3744 Tara Drive, was arrested Thursday night and charged with manslaughter early Friday morning. He is currently being held without bail at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center.

Manslaughter is defined as “a homicide which would be murder under either first-degree murder or second-degree murder, but the offense is committed in sudden passion or heat of blood immediately caused by provocation sufficient to deprive an average person of his self-control and cool reflection.”
