We need to seek a better world

The world seems to be at a crossroads today.

Will it become a safe and beneficial place in which to live? Or will it continue to be a place where we bury the innocent people who were killed at the pleasure of others for no earthly reason?

We are at the point where good and bad are confronting each other. The bad is coming from those who want to annihilate the good that is inherent in most human beings to live good lives and help others do likewise. The bad comes from those who bear the bad instincts and want to get rid of everyone who does not follow suit.

During the past few weeks, the terrorist attacks have increased and innocent people who have done nothing wrong have been killed and injured in attacks. They were leading normal lives, and patriotic ones in many cases.  In the case of policemen in Baton Rouge and elsewhere, they were serving a public duty in which case they should be proclaimed protectors of the public and guardians of our democracy.

Apparently, our people’s freedoms are not being protected as they should be under democratic rule today. And as we proceed from today’s disjointed efforts to enforce the law, we need to change the way we do it. Our methods of enforcing the laws has to change to a new method that does not give people the freedom to decide how that enforcement is carried out.

We do need some elimination of the circumstances under which weapons can be used and even carried in public. It is not possible to keep weapons out of public life since they are needed at times to maintain order. But it may be possible to restrict their use or even appearance in situations that will not encourage their use.

Perhaps even policemen should not use or even show their guns unless it is very necessary to prevent serious crime. If we can minimize the sight of guns in cases where crime is imminent, perhaps it can eliminate the use of them in those situations or others that they can encourage.

Our legal system should be designed to stress what is beneficial to human society, not showing off what the public needs to think about in fighting crime or other disorders that create problems. Our next president should rally other chief executives around the world to accentuate peaceful activities that will not activate the evil influences that have abounded lately.

And what ever happened to the League of Nations and United Nations that were supposed to make this a more peaceful world? We’ve been through two world wars and now we are in a period where it is not necessary to have a war to start killing people indiscriminately. We can allow people to drive a truck down a sidewalk and kill crowds of people out to have a good time. And by so doing, we can kill the good times of many others who are friends or relatives of the deceased.

As we pass through these harrowing days of evil ways, our country and world must come up with practical ways to put the world on a much more pleasant path of prosperity and happiness that will encourage everyone to enjoy their world as it is and teach them ways to make it better. And then we need to put it all together for the future happiness of mankind.

In fact, our next President could use this as a major outlook for his administration. It should be up to the leader of the major democratic country in the world to remake us into the advanced civilization we need to be.
