Without question, the Super Bowl belongs in New Orleans at least every four or five years. This year’s event has proven that.
The French and Cajun cultures mixed with many others have invited living styles that make life here an enjoyable experience. And visitors appreciate the fun and cordiality that come with it.
It all started with the Sugar Bowl many years ago in the old Tulane Stadium on Willow Street. Then the Super Bowl played there for some years before it moved to the Superdome after it was built.
Since it moved, it has become a downtown event and, in New Orleans, where the French Quarter is nearby and many hotels serve the visitors, it has become, probably, the most enjoyable sporting event in the nation.
Our culture welcomes people from all over the country. And our appreciation of their visits makes them all the more enjoyable.
Our President takes a turnaround
Our President has taken a turnabout in his health care plan. Now he has recognized that he went against many citizens’ religions by requiring taxpayers to help support abortion and contraception financially in their health care plans when many churches opposed it.
He also has taken a right turn in declaring that he wants to find ways to cut spending that will help our country’s bottom line. Previously, he didn’t talk about cutting spending, only raising taxes.
And the taxes he was to raise were only that of the wealthy which is not where the votes are. But what we must realize is that the taxes of the wealthy will be raised automatically when they make more money and doesn’t need the government putting them into a different class.
So it appears that President Obama has decided he went too far in crossing the line of trying to put his programs into effect without consideration of the wishes of opposition. And that is the way democracy should work.
A public official should not take the notion that a small percentage victory at the polls at election time gives him the right to negate the wishes and beliefs of others. And we think he is coming to that realization.
Our President does not carry out the wishes of all of us but he is a likeable fellow and his consideration of everybody’s interests could still make him a good President.
So let us be appreciative of the consideration he has given us all and hope the future turns the light on what should be going on in our nation. After all, we must all live together peacefully in a way that satisfies the conservatives and liberals and all the different types of individuals that exist in our country.
