Loads of activities planned for park opening

Educational displays about the wildlife of the LeBranche Wetlands will highlight the grand opening celebration of Norco’s Wetland Watchers Park beginning at noon Oct. 2.

Activities will include face pairing, hands-on presentations with snakes and baby alligators, displays by the Wetland Watchers service learning organization of Harry Hurst Middle School and participation from the Corps of Engineers, Nicholls State University Biology Department, Ms. Elite Junior Teen Louisiana, New Orleans Hornets and more.

Food available for a small donation will include jambalaya, white beans, pastalaya, crawfish monica and desserts.

Those who volunteer for the parish’s fall Trash Bash litter cleanup that morning will receive coupons for one free food and one free drink item. Residents may sign up to volunteer and receive supplies at www.scptrashbash.org.

All proceeds from the event will benefit oil spill wildlife rehabilitation efforts. Wetland Watchers Park is located at the end of the Spillway’s East Guide Levee at Lake Pontchartrain.

Get on the Bus! Info tour is coming

St. Charles Parish government will again provide citizens with a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of parish infrastructure, including pumping stations and the Emergency Operations Center, during its fall ‘Info Tour.’

Tours will be held on the East Bank Oct. 14 and the West Bank Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. to noon each day. Meetup for both tours will be at the St. Charles Parish Courthouse Council Chambers, 15045 River Road in Hahnville. The tour is free and transportation is provided.

Patrons will also have the chance to interface with various department heads and the parish president, who will answer questions about current infrastructure and future plans.

To reserve a spot on the Info Tour, call (985) 783-5182 or fill out the online form located at www.scpinfotour.org. Space is limited. A virtual tour is also available at that address.

Weekend Info Tour dates will be available in Spring 2011.
