Working out can fit into your schedule with Anytime Fitness

Why is it so hard for adults to stay in good terms with their fitness? One of the biggest reasons is lack of time and convenience of gym availability in their neighborhood.

Well, at Anytime Fitness, we understand how important convenience is to our members.

People want to exercise on their own terms – whenever their busy schedules allow, close to their homes or work places – and when they travel.

That’s why Anytime Fitness clubs are open 24/7 – allowing members to work out any time of the day or night – even when our clubs are not staffed.

It’s also the rationale behind our reciprocity policy: join one Anytime Fitness club and use nearly 1,000 other clubs, in 45 different states and Canada, at no extra charge. What could be more convenient than that?

It is 2009 and there are a number of ways to kick start the New Year and get you back into a fitness routine. Empty promises are what New Year’s resolutions typically amount to.

This year forego the resolutions and instead make a commitment. Make a commitment to embrace the struggle and walk with the confidence that only comes from being willing to pay the price.

Here are some basic ways and good habits to get you ready for taking control of a better way of living for you by physical training.

1. Schedule your workouts as if they were a doctor’s appointment and commit to it. Everyone has busy lifestyles these days; do not let yourself make excuses for your busy lifestyle. Remember, fitness is not a way an option, but a way of life. Once you get into a routine and are used to training regularly, you’ll begin to realize the stress relieving benefits of physical exercise to get you through the day. If you haven’t worked out with weights lately, set an appointment with a personal trainer at your gym to get you started and off and running in the right direction.

2. The New Year is a time for reflection, but also a time for goal setting. Year after year we make empty promises to lose the weight once and for all. We set lofty goals that are almost impossible to achieve.

In 2009, try to refocus your weight loss goals. Setting a goal to lose 50 pounds isn’t specific enough and it is probably too lofty of a goal the average person is unable to handle

Instead, narrow down your weight loss goal to more realistic goals like losing 10 percent of your body weight, reducing 5 percent of body fat, not eating after 6 p.m. or scheduling gym exercise five days a week.

These goals are S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reasonable and Time-bound) New Year resolutions that you can track and stick with.

Once you achieve one or more of your goals, your self-esteem will increase and you can continue to plot your course to permanent weight loss in smaller chunks.

3. Don’t be afraid to change your status quo.

Try something new every time you go the gym and utilize different tools that make working out more enjoyable. Using the gym’s TV on its cardio equipment can change your routine on the treadmill. Jog during your favorite episode then run through the commercials to change up your cardio routine. For you sports fans, schedule your work out during a NFL game or complete your cardio workout during the 1st quarter of a Hornets game and complete your weight training watching the rest of the game on one of our 42-inch televisions.

4. Keep it simple and fun. Set realistic goals. Make sure you have S.M.A.R.T. manageable goals that are achievable in less than a year’s time. Use a flexible meal plan that doesn’t require you to omit certain food groups. Too many restrictions will leave you feeling deprived and send you back to your old eating habits in no time. Practice patience.

You didn’t gain your extra weight overnight so don’t expect to lose it overnight. Give your body time to adjust to the new lifestyle while never allowing your-self to plateau.

Be specific about what actions you will take to reach your weight loss goals.
