In the exam room at the St. Charles Community Health Center in Norco, Nurse Practitioner Michelle Babin calms Chloe Hebert, who is adjusting to her first visit there.

“I grew up in Luling,” said Babin, who joined the center in late May.
She has 15 years of experience in nursing. Of that time, three of these years has been as a nurse practitioner. “It’s a small parish and tight-knit community, and the people here are good people,” Babin said. “They need a place where they can get care and know the people care about them.”
Babin is thrilled about joining the staff.
“I really like it and I like the staff that works here,” she said. “It’s probably one of my favorite jobs so far.”Back to school efforts are getting ready to kick in.“You want to make sure kids have all immunizations up to date,” she said. “The ones often missed are pre-teens and teens.”
This includes vaccines for meningitis and HPV and hepatitis, which are available at the center. Also, records of having these shots are maintained and available wherever the patient is online so the record travels with the patient.
These inoculations are available as part of the center’s one-stop shop approach to medicine.
Babin said this is important because people don’t want to visit different places for their medical care.
The center offers a one-stop shop for families, as well as serves as the call center for the entire Access Health Louisiana Network.
Babin joins health providers there including Dr. Sudha Mardia, family practice; Dr. Brigette Jones, dentist; Dr. Yacara Tabb, podiatrist, and Myra Noustens, social worker.St. Charles Community Health Center provides care ranging from dentistry to vaccinations to behavioral health.
Patients are accepted regardless of how they can pay. Most insurances are accepted, including Medicaid and Medicare. An income-based sliding scale is available to those who do not have insurance.
