31st Annual LA Sportsmen’s Show and Festival
GONZALES – The 31st Annual Louisiana Sportsmen’s Show and Festival has everything for the sportfishing, boating and hunting enthusiast.
It will be held on March 12 from 2-9 p.m., March 13 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and March 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.
General admission is $8 for adults and $5 for kids. Those  dressed in a military uniform get in free.
The event will include hundreds of fishing and hunting booths, boat areas and more with special show prices.
New this year are the Purina Incredible Dog Team performing amazing acts of acrobatic skill and “Meet the Troutmasters: A Reunion” featuring many of the 14 anglers featured in the book “Trout Masters: How Louisiana’s Best Anglers Catch the Lunkers.

ACT prep classes available
DESTREHAN – Sessions to help prepare for taking the ACT will be available to students who are residents of St. Charles Parish on Sat., March 6 from 9 a.m. until  noon at Destrehan High School. Interested students will need to choose one of the three sessions offered: English, Reading, or Math. Students may register by  completing and printing the registration form found on their school’s Web site or by picking up a form in the school’s office, the school’s counseling office, or the reception desk at the St. Charles Parish School Board Office. The registration fee is $10 if registered by March 3.  Checks should be made payable to St. Charles Parish Schools. No refunds will be given. On-site registration on both dates will be offered, but seating is limited. The cost for late or on-site registration is $15. West Bank town hall meeting
ST. CHARLES PARISH – St. Charles Parish leaders will host an upcoming town hall meeting to present information on infrastructure and other projects in progress or completed since their terms began in January 2008.
Also on the agenda is a discussion of the state of hurricane protection in the parish, as well as a presentation on upcoming civic projects, including a new Department of Motor Vehicles building, animal shelter and community center.
Attendees will also be able to participate in a question-and-answer session with their parish council representatives and Parish President V.J. St. Pierre Jr.

Fair for disabled
children, families
ST. CHARLES PARISH – St. Charles Parish Public Schools is pleased to invite you to its 2010 “Bridging the Gap” Transition Fair.  The Transition Fair will be held at the Professional Learning Center, previously the old K-mart building, on Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This is an event to bring awareness and information to students, parents, and teachers of children with disabilities from birth to twenty-two about services that are available to their families. This is a great opportunity for parents of students from birth to twenty-two to gather useful information and resources.

Norco Knights of Columbus fish fry
NORCO – The Knights of Columbus Lenten fish fries are here again!
Red Church Council #3634 Knights of Columbus will be serving a “Louisiana” catfish dinner at the church hall at 375 Spruce Street in Norco each Friday during Lent – Feb. 19 through April 2 from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
The dinner is $7 and includes catfish fillets, french fries, hush puppies, cole slaw and cake squares.
A fried “onion mum” with dipping sauce will be available for $5.
Your favorite beverages will also be available.

Luling Knights of Columbus fish fry
LULING – The Knights of Columbus, St. Charles Council 2409 will hold two Lenten Fish Fries at the St. Anthony of Padua Community Activities Building in Luling.
On March 5 and March 19, fried fish, white beans with shrimp and rice along with a side and desert will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Dine in or take out.
Cost of the meal is $7. Drinks will also be available.

Gardeners host plant health clinic
GARYVILLE – River Region Master Gardeners will have a Plant Health Clinic at San Francisco’s Plantation Spring Festival, 2646 Hwy. 44 (River Road), on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday March 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

BCA extends pre-k registration dates
BOUTTE – Qualifiying parents can register their 4-year-olds for a chance at free placement in private school pre-kindergarten programs for the coming school year. A limited number of classroom seats are available at Boutte Christian Academy.
Qualifying requirements for parents and children include:
students must turn four years old on or before Sept. 30, 2010;
Students must be current on all medical immunizations;
and participating families must have an annual household income less than:
$29,140 for family of two;
$36,620 for family of three;
$44,100 for family of four;
$51,580 for family of five;
$59,060 for family of six.

Developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education programs are proven by research to result in long-term positive outcomes for children. Inherent in this philosophy is a child-centered program directed toward the development of cognitive, social and emotional, language and literacy, creative arts, and health and physical concepts and skills in a manner, and at a pace, consistant with the needs and capabilities of the individual child.

Double family workshop
DESTREHAN – A double workshop of “Who can help my family?” and “How can I help my family?” will be held on March 12 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the East Regional Library on River Road in Destrehan. Contact Karen Scallan at (985)447-4461 for more information.

St. Charles 4-H Jr. Leader garage sale
LULING – St. Charles 4-H Jr. Leader Garage Sale will be held at the St. Charles 4-H Office on March 13 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. The 4-H Office is located at 1313 Paul Maillard Road, Suite E in Luling, which is located on the right of the CVS Shopping Center.
This garage sale will help to fund the St. Charles 4-H Jr. Leader Club Awards Trip. Baked goods will also be sold at the garage sale.

St. Patty’s Pawrade
DESTREHAN – Costume your pet on a leash or pull in a carriage or wagon for the annual German Coast Farmer’s Market St. Patty’s Pet Pawrade.  Prizes will be awarded for best presentation.  $5.00 entry fee.  Saturday, March 13, 10 a.m.  Register at 9 a.m.  Ormond Plantation, River Road, Destrehan.

First St. Charles Has Talent Show
ST. CHARLES PARISH – The St. Charles Has Talent Talent show will take place on March 5 at Destrehan High School’s auditorium from 7–9 p.m.
This Talent Show is sponsored by St. Charles 4-H Jr. Leaders, 4-H Performing Arts Club, and Rotolo’s.
The Talent Show will highlight students from various schools throughout St. Charles Parish.
Please come to support the talented students of the parish as they perform to compete for first and second place in their division.
Tickets may be purchased at the door for $7 per person.
Refreshments will also be sold to help fund the St. Charles 4-H Jr. Leader Club Awards Trip.
