Teen belly dance classes June 25

ST. CHARLES PARISH – Teens ages 12 and up interested in learning about Middle Eastern dance and culture are invited to participate in free belly dancing classes on Thursday, June 25 at the East Regional Library at 10:30 a.m., and at the West Regional Library at 2 p.m.. New Orleans dancer and instructor Samantha Young, who specializes in Middle Eastern, Brazilian, and Polynesian dance, will lead the workshops.

Participants will learn proper posture and dance moves and will learn how to play the zills to Arabic music. Young’s innovative workshop will encourage participants’ creativity by adding Middle Eastern moves to dances or music they like and already know.

This dance is a discipline that is great for self esteem and positive body image, as well as fostering a sense of community that comes from dancing in a group.
