St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter hosting Give-A-Lick program

The St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter is hosting the Give-A-Lick program to invite visitors to tour and volunteer to give pets a break from the shelter.

This monthly event offers visitors the opportunity to participate in a tour with a hands-on and practical approach. “We want people to see this is a happy place where even if you can’t adopt, you can help these pets take a break from shelter life with a little of your time,” said Shelter Supervisor Dr. Jena Troxler.“Children and families loved our first event of walking dogs, playing with kittens. Giving treats to residents, coloring, reading to animals, snacking on coffee and donuts and learning about animal care.”

Troxler said the shelter is open to the public Saturdays 8 a.m. to noon. Troxler added, “This past week we even incorporated a surgery component for those wanting to see how we spay and neuter in an effort to make pets healthier and limit the population entering the shelter as homeless residents.”
