River Region Arts & Humanities Council holds Denim & Diamonds fundraiser May 3

Get ready to raise that bid with hand painted fans designed by Destrehan High school seniors Skye Jenkins and Johnna Hurd, talented art students. The cowboy hat “bidding” fans will be used during the auction at the River Region Arts & Humanities Council fundraiser, Denim & Diamonds, May 3 at the Destrehan Plantation Mule Barn on River Road in Destrehan beginning at 6:30 p.m.

So, shine up your belt buckles, bolas and boots. Dust off your finest cowboy hats and blue-jean jackets and get ready to party for a cause.

Thanks to the supportive residents of the area, the River Region Arts & Humanities Council has raised over $250,000 since 2001 to support arts and humanities enrichment in the area.

Under the direction of event chair, Sandra Chaisson, a fun-filled evening is planned. The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with appetizers, a signature drink the Bourbon Spur and music by Gal Holiday, a western swing rockabilly headliner. A chuck wagon style dinner will be served at 7:45 p.m. followed by a live auction, raffles, door prizes and more music.

You won’t want to miss the opportunity to raise your “fan” during the auction featuring custom-made chandeliers, cowboy hats decorated by local “quick draw”artists (hats will be judged by Yvonne LaFleur), a condo stay in Aspen, Colorado including airfare for two and transportation from the airport to the condo, a portrait sitting worth over $2,400, a trip to the Kentucky Derby, a hat donated by Yvonne LaFleur suitable for wearing at the Derby, themed baskets and other exciting items. There will also be a “wagon train” of prizes and a raffle for a Coach purse valued at almost $500.

The price for an evening of western fun is $50.00 per person. For more information, contact Anita Hymel at 985-703-0831.
