Performance of ‘Thumbelina’ by River Region Ballet

NORCO – Once again the River Region Ballet will display in their spring concert the diversity of ballet and its relevance in today’s society. Offerings include “Ballet in Black and White,” a mixed bill depicting the evolution of ballet from the romantic to the 21st century and a children’s classic fairy tale, “Thumbelina.” Performances are Saturday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m .and Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m. A special matinee performance of “Thumbelina” followed by a meet and greet will also take place Saturday, March 23 at 3 p.m.

“Thumbelina” is the featured ballet for RRB’s Children’s Matinee. It is an original ballet by artistic director Susan Ferrara based on the colorful fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson. RRB’s Junior Company members are featured in this ballet led by Junior Company dancer Kate Lougon in the title role of Thumbelina. Young audience members are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite fairy, flower or garden bug. After the Children’s Matinee, guests will be invited on stage to meet RRB’s cast, get autographs and save the memory with a photograph. Of course Thumbelina will have a special treat for all their new friends. “Thumbelina” will also be performed Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m. in conjunction with “Ballet in Black and White.”
