Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum spring break camp

MADISONVILLE – A week-long maritime camp will be held Monday, April 21 through Friday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day in Madisonville.

The camp is open to children ages 8-12. The camp’s goal is to create a space where children can form a deeper relationship and appreciation of the Tchefuncte River and Lake Pontchartrain Basin and learn about opportunities where they can make a difference.

Kids will learn about the three ethics of permaculture: care of the earth, care of all people and fair share. Throughout the camp participants will paint, draw, build, bounce, dance, LARP (Live Action Role Playing), make masks, learn printmaking, make videos, make medicine, play games and participate in more activities that represent the ethics of permaculture.

Organizers hope that the camp brings about curious observation of natural surroundings that will guide them to cooperatively envision and build their own world the way they want it to be.

Family and friends are invited to the museum on the last day of camp to try out homemade delicacies and see what the campers have made and learned during the week.

The cost is $250 per child.

To register call (985) 845-9200 or email educator@lpbmm.org.
