Join new church for “Block Party at the Park”

DESTREHAN – The all-new GracePoint Baptist Church of Destrehan invites the community to a “Block Party at the Park” – a free family event that includes inflatables, food, games, music and prizes.

“We’re a brand new church and we’re doing this party to let our community know that we’re here,” said Pastor Chris Housewright.

Housewright and his family decided to move to Destrehan and establish the church after visiting the area last year.

“We came down last summer and worked with a pastor in Kenner who pointed us in the direction of Destrehan,” Housewright said. “We fell in love with the area and felt the desire to start a church in the community.”

The party at the park event will be Aug. 12 from 4-8 p.m. at the Ormond Park Baseball Field, 1901 Ormond Blvd.

The church’s first regular activity will be a Bible Study that begins at 6 p.m. on Aug. 21 at Cypress Lakes Country Club in Destrehan. The study is open to anyone and Housewright says he hopes to build up a core membership so that the church can begin having regular Sunday services.
