Heritage day for kids at plantation

DESTREHAN – Destrehan Plantation is having its 11th annual “Spring Heritage Day for students of all ages on Wednesday, May 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The educational event gives students the opportunity to learn about the self-sufficient life long ago in early Louisiana.

Demonstrations include indigo dyeing, open-hearth cooking, weaving, spinning, quilting, historical carpentry, moss mattress making, herbal healing, bee keeping, wood carving, sheering sheep, milking cows and much more.

Other lessons, exhibits and presentations are scheduled, including war reenactments.

The event is open to all schools, home school families and the general public.
