The River Region Drama Guild’s youth actor’s theatre camp will explore the building blocks of theatre using creative dramatics, improvisations, theatre games, and storytelling.
The camp will be 9 a.m. to noon July 9 – 20 for ages 8 to 15.
This non-competitive, process oriented workshop will help individuals collaborate and solve problems as they discover how to express themselves through the medium of theatre.
“We will share our experiences with friends and family in an open performance on the final evening,” said Henry Sorbet, Managing director at River Region Performing Arts and Cultural Center.
“We will work on development of the voice, physical, ensemble and imaginative skills,” Sorbet said. “We will work on characterization, improvisation, textual analysis and acting techniques.”
The workshop will focus on ensemble building, trust, observation, self-confidence, concentration, imagination and creativity. The fundamental basics of theater and provide a well-rounded academic, educational experience of drama for all will be introduced.
Everyone, regardless of ability and experience, will be given an opportunity to be involved. Participants will experience theater as a creative and critical thinking process that will help foster a healthy self-concept, develop intra-personal skills, clarify perceptions of the world, and nurture an awareness of themselves as physical, social and creative beings. The final evening will be a public performance demonstrating the skills learned in the workshop.
The River Region Drama Guild is offering students 8 to 15 years old the opportunity to learn acting skills and the chance to participate in a play. This program is supported in part by a grant from United Way of St. Charles; the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Bayou Regional Arts Council, by the River Region Arts and Humanities Council and by the Norco Community Fund.
