Dec. 1 – Blood drive

American Legion Post 131 is holding its “Mr. Charlie Oubre Jr.” Memorial Blood Drive with the Oschsner Blood Bank from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Dec. 1 at American Legion Post, 103 Milling Ave., Luling. Eat a healthy meal prior to donating.

Bring a photo ID and individuals taking medications for high blood pressure and cholesterol can donate. All donors will receive an insulated drawstring backpack and a meal. The post is also collecting items for residents of the South Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve. Needed items include: slippers for men and women; cheap watches, denture adhesives, Efferdent, shampoo (regular size), Tootsie Roll Pops, Hershey bars, “cheaters” glasses, snack packs (pudding or Jell-O, scented soaps (lavender or fruity scented), eye glass cleaning packs, Mardi Gras beats (new), Kleenex, and anything with the Saints or LSU logo (shirts, stuffed animals, etc.). To donate gift bags for Veterans Home and local nursing home, call Vice Commander Richard Bordner at (504) 343-5092.
