The La. Catfish Festival Annual Baby and Youth Pageant at will be held at the Father Mac Community Building. Age divisions will be from 0-10 years old. They will crown King or Queen, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd runners up and specialty awards will be given in each division. Participation certificates and a surprise gift will be given to all contestants. Circus comes to town
Smith Middle School will hold a “Circus of the Kids” on May 11 and 12 at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, May 13 at 2 and 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $4 per child and $5 per adult. Tickets at the door are $5 per child and $6 per adult. Present and adult ticket at the door and receive one child’s ticket free. Heritage Fest celebrates 200 years
Donaldsonville’s 200-year celebration includes the Bicentennial Heritage Fest on the weekend of April 29 and 30. The event will include music, food, games, live entertainment, a children’s village, craft fair, antique car show, a scavenger hunt, heritage activities and live reenactments. This cultural festival celebrates the various nationalities that have settled the Donaldsonville area.
Craft vendors of every variety are welcome to participate. Craft booths are $50.00 for both festival dates, and applications are available at Donaldsonville’s City Hall, located at 609 Railroad Avenue. For more information, contact 225-473-4247/ext. 13.
Car and bike owners rev up your engines
On the banks of the Mississippi River in Vacherie is the setting for the River Parishes 1st Annual Car and Bike Show featuring the music of Local Option 2, food, crafts, and a little piece of history…Oak Alley Plantation. The event is set for for April 22 at 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. (Rain date is May 13). Awards will include Top Ten, Best of Show, Best Interior, and Best Paint plus more. St. Charles Parish Sports day coming soon
St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation will hold The St. Charles Parish Sports Day. Titled ”Gumbo”. The event is a track and field competition and Bocce for students ages 5-22 with physical or visual disabilities. The Sports Day will provide instruction in preparing for GUMBO track & field and Bocce events in a non-threatening, non-competitive environment. The event is scheduled for April 22 at 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Destrehan High School. Garland Robinette to Speak at Women’s Club
The St. Charles Women’s Club’s April program will be both entertaining and informative as the group hears from Garland Robinette of WWL Radio on “Bringing Back New Orleans.” Robinette is a Luling native who will share some ideas from his Think Tank. Plan to attend this meeting on Thursday, April 20 at the First Union Presbyterian Church on Lakewood Drive beginning at 9 a.m. with coffee and conversation. The Club will also be celebrating their 40th Anniversary at the meeting. Memorabilia from the past will be on display.
Calling all bookworms
The Friends of St. Charles Library will be holding a book sale on May 5 and 6. However, at this time the group is in need of books of all kinds. If you have books you would like to donate, please consider giving them to the book sale.
