Will face Dutchtown on the road in second round

The 10th-seeded Hahnville Lady Tigers went into the first round of the Class 5A playoffs 12-0 in district play and kept the ball rolling with a 3-2 win over No. 23 seed St. Joseph’s Academy.

The Lady Tigers exchanged the lead with St. Joseph’s Academy five times on Tuesday. Hahnville went up for good in the fifth inning for the win.

Freshman Danielle Duplay scored in the bottom of the third to get the Tigers on the board off a Maeson Martindale single to third base.

Sophomore Pryscilla Prince scored off a sac fly from freshman Sarah VanEtta in the bottom of third inning. In the bottom of the fifth, VanEtta doubled to left field with a hard line drive that scored Prince for the second time of the game. Hahnville was able to hold off St. Josephs for the remaining innings to capture the win.

Hahnville head coach Jerry Nugent said he was happy with the way his team played.

“It was a hard fought game,” he said. “Both teams played well. I was glad we were able to execute. It was exactly what we needed to do.”

Hahnville takes on No. 7 seed Dutchtown on the road Saturday at 11 a.m. in the second round of the playoffs.
