Wildcats beat Vandebilt, Episcopal by identical 7-1 scores

The Destrehan baseball team cruised past both Vandebilt Catholic and Episcopal by identical 7-1 scores last week, but came out on the losing end of a 4-3 game against Riverside on Saturday to fall to 9-12 on the season.

The Wildcat offense was consistent against Vandebilt, scoring one run in the first and second innings before scoring five runs in the final two frames to pick up the victory.

Kyle Ray led Destrehan from the plate, racking up three RBIs on two hits. Jesse Bryant and Brock Benedetto also brought in runs in the game.

Brett Hymel got the win for Destrehan, giving up only one run in seven innings. Hymel allowed nine hits and struck out two.

 

Destrehan 7 Episcopal 1

The Wildcats continued to roll against Episcopal, riding a four-run second inning to the 7-1 victory.

Destrehan pitcher Walter Johnson was impressive in the win, allowing only three hits and striking out four in five innings of work. Benedetto finished with two RBIs on one hit, while Jace Weber went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Wildcats were also aggressive on the base paths, finishing with seven steals. Brennan Breaud had three of those steals, while Bryant stole two bases.

 

Riverside 4 Destrehan 3

Despite a 3-for-3 effort from the plate by Michael Smith, the Wildcats were unable to keep their win streak going as they fell to Riverside on Saturday.

Smith singled in the third and fourth innings and doubled in the seventh while driving in a run. Ryan Burks and Breaud both went 1-for-2 from the plate with an RBI.

Jacob Marino got the start for the Wildcats, allowing three runs on six hits in 3.1 innings. Hymel came in to relieve Marino in the third and suffered the loss after giving up one run on one hit. Both pitchers struck out three in the game.
