Wildcat offense struggles in Gerard Oubre Memorial

The Destrehan baseball team knocked off Central Lafourche but lost to both Jesuit and Brother Martin over the weekend in the Gerard Oubre Memorial Tournament.

The Wildcats managed just three hits and one run in Friday’s loss to Jesuit. Both teams scored a run in the third inning, but the Blue Jays scored three in the top of the seventh to claim the victory.

Ryan Burks led the Wildats from the plate going 1-for-3 with a double. Michael Smith also went 1-for-3 in the game, while Jacob Marino got a hit in his only plate appearance. Marino did suffer the loss for the Wildcats, giving up seven hits and four runs in 6.1 innings. He finished with two strikeouts.

Destrehan’s Kyle Ray hit a home run and pitched a shut out to lead the Wildcats past Central Lafourche.

Ray’s home run came in the bottom of the first inning and proved to be all Destrehan would need to get the victory. On the mound, Ray cruised through 5.2 innings by allowing only two hits and striking out four batters.

The Wildcats managed only three hits in the game. In addition to Ray’s home run, Jesse Bryant and Jace Weber both had singles.

Destrehan jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Bryant got things going for Destrehan with a double and a groundout by Smith moved Bryant from second to third. Another groundout by Weber plated Bryant to give Destrehan a 1-0 advantage.

After that though it was all Brother Martin, who scored two runs in the second, fourth and seventh innings to put the Wildcats away.

Weber led the Wildcats from the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Brennan Quigley finished 1-for-3 with an RBI while Ray went 2-for-2.
