Finish unbeaten in 6-I play for 2nd title in 3 years

For the second time in three seasons, Hahnville has earned the mantle of District 6-I champion.

The volleyball squad earned that honor outright after besting its two top rivals in district play last week, sweeping Destrehan at home by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-13 and downing defending district champion H.L. Bourgeois 25-13, 25-20 and 24-14.

Bailey Roux had 30 assists to help lead Hahnville (22-12), along with Brianna Plaisance and her 11 kills and two aces. Chelsea Plaisance had 10 kills while Yelah Moses added four. Reagan Young served two aces and Kristen Crutti made six digs.

The Tigers ended their district season unbeaten after downing Thibodaux Tuesday.

Hahnville wasted no time taking charge against Bourgeois, with Brianna Plaisance (14),  Young (13), Chelsea Plaisance (12) and Moses (5) combining for 44 kills on the night. Bailey Roux helped pave the way via her 44 assists, while also adding 10 digs. Brianna and Chelsea Plaisance had seven and five kills, respectively, while Kristen Crutti had six digs. Young served a team-high three aces, while Kallie Landry served two.

Prior to that game, Hahnville bested Central Lafourche in three games, 25-16, 25-14 and 25-12.

Young led Hahnville in kills with 11. Roux made 28 assists. Chelsea Plaisance had eight digs, while Brianna Plaisance and Kristen Crutti each had six.

Hahnville’s 2016 district championship was the school’s first volleyball crown in nearly a decade, and the Tigers have now earned two in just three years. Hahnville rode that momentum to hosting and winning an opening round playoff game that season, and like in 2017, went unbeaten in district play.
