Wild Thursday game clinches district

In both rivalry games against Destrehan, Hahnville’s program of excellence won them the rightful title of District 5-5A Champions. In their game on Thursday, Hahnville beat Destrehan 14-10. On Saturday, Hahnville took their second victory against Destrehan with a win of 2-0.In the first game, Jordan Frickey of Hahnville started the hitting spree and his teammates followed his lead.

The energy on both teams was very high with a focus on winning. However, on Thursday, both teams struggled on the pitcher’s mound with their ace starting pitchers sitting in the dug out.

Aaron Loup did not start the game for Hahnville, while Kyle Shnowski from Destrehan was out with a pitching injury. Shnowski did bat for the team.

Having switched pitchers four times during the game, Hahnville brought in Aaron Loup. Destrehan had the bases loaded and the score at 14-10. With Joe Harrison at the plate, Loup successfully ended the inning and the game by striking out Harrison.

Destrehan had its best inning at the bottom of the third when the team scored five runs with an RBI double by Kyle Shnowski, a RBI single by Tony Montalbano and a bunt by Joe Harrison. These plays centered around two errors by Hahnville.

However, Hahnville took back the lead in the fourth with a two-run hit by Garret Loup and again in the fifth innings scoring 3 runs. The Tigers had their best inning during the top of the seventh when Colby Broussard hit a two-run single.

Saturday’s game was a lot different. Both teams were very settled and focused. Kyle Shnowski was out again due to a new injury sustained at the Thursday’s game.

Sophomore Zephan Rochelle of Destrehan handled the job of pitching well, stiking out 10 batters. Destrehan’s defensive was sharper and on point, limiting Hahnville to only two runs.

Senior Reid Pichon of Hahnville matched Rochelle’s performance. He stepped on the mound in Loup’s absence, collecting over 10 strikeouts.

Colby Broussard and Jordan Frickey scored the 2 runs for Hahnville. Destrehan and Hahnville teams are both stacked with strong players.Hahnville remained undefeated in the district and will begin playoffs next week.
