Game stopped after 15 runs
When baseball fans walked into the gates of the Hahnville Baseball Field, etched on the board were the words “Welcome to Hanhville Baseball: The Program of Excellence.” Walking further one continues to see that mark of excellence written on the Wall of Fame. Approaching the field, one hears the fans, reserved yet as proud as any group of fans could be yelling words of support.
On the field, the players are confident and sure of what they are doing. The Tigers’ game against the John Ehret Patriots was an example of a program of excellence in progress. On Saturday, they slaughtered the Patriots 15-0 and because of the score and shutout rule the game was stopped in the 5th inning.
The Hahnville Tigers’ pitcher Aaron Loup was consistent on the mound limiting opportunities for any type of scoring with over 15 strikeouts. “I just get up there and do my job,” said Loup. “We are just playing real well as a team.” The team as a whole worked their magic on the field letting nothing get by them.
Every starter that stepped to the plate got a hit on the ball. Jordan Frickey, Garrett Loup, Wesley Thigpin, Jourdan Stephany and Aaron Loup set off the first inning one behind the other establishing a score of 5-0.
By the end of the 2nd inning, the Tigers were up 8-0. In the 3rd inning, the hitting parade started again with Daniel Frickey’s basehit followed by Jordan Frickey sending a ball out in midfield. Wesley Thigpin followed with a hit bringing in those two runners.
John Ehret’s pitcher, Steven Pfifner, experienced difficulty walking one of the Tigers in the 4th inning, which placed two runners on base with Jordan Stephany at bat again. Jordan’s grounder sent one runner home and created a batter’s opportunity. As Coby Broussard, a sophomore, stepped to bat, his concentration was prevalent. Hitting the only homerun of the game, Broussard brings home all runners pushing the score at the end of the 3rd inning 14-0.
“We make some mistakes, but we are getting better each game,” said Coach Frank Cazeaux. “We are not playing the other team, we are actually playing ourselves.” “These players are consistent and they understand the game.”
In the 4th inning, Brian Young, Clay Begue, Clint Chaisson, and Andre Baudouin all got a hit on the ball. However, the Tigers were only successful bring home one runner, closing out the inning 15-0.
In the 5th inning, Coach Cazeaux, gave Aaron Loup a rest and brought in Eric Fey to pitch the last inning. Fey successfully strukeout all three batters in a matter of minutes. “I want my players to be focused and enthusiastic at all times,” said Coach Cazeaux. “It’s not where you start, it’s how you finish.”
