H-ville’s Jordan Stephany signs with Tulane
As we reported to you last week, Hahnville High School star halfback/fullback Jordan Stephany has indeed verbally committed to Tulane University. Stephany, who originally committed to former Green Wave head coach Chris Scelfo, was also offered a scholarship by new head coach Bob Toledo and accepted.
The 6-2, 240 pound running back rushed for 921 yards and scored 14 touchdowns last season for Hahnville.
In Bob Toledo’s West Coast type offense, look for Stephany to play the hybrid “H-Back” slot at Tulane. The former All-State tight end looks like a natural for this position in the college ranks which is a mixture of both tight end and fullback. Stephany selected Tulane over the University of Connecticut and Southern Illinois.
Destrehan High School standout wide receiver Edwin Reed is starting to get a hard look again by the Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes. The Hurricanes had shown early interest in the 5-7, 165-pound speedy playmaker, but their interests seemed to cool during the 2006 season.
Now, under new head coach Randy Shannon, the Canes have started to rethink their recruiting efforts about Reed and have a strong interest in his talent.
Shannon was the defensive coordinator at Miami (Fla.) when Reed’s brother, Ed, now an All-Pro safety with the Baltimore Ravens, was an All-American defensive back for the Hurricanes.
Shannon thinks Edwin Reed has the ability to a “Sinorice Moss” type wide receiver prospect for Miami. Moss, a 5-8, 175-pound end, earned 1st team All-ACC honors for the Canes before being selected in the 2nd round by the New York Giants last spring.
Reed has also drawn interest from Texas Tech and Ole Miss.
