Sugar Bowl Track Classic sweet for Hahnville Tigers

Five Hahnville athletes who received invitations to participate in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Track Classic this past Saturday all placed in the top four at the event.

The event featured some of the best high school talent in the southeast. Teams from Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Louisiana all took part in the classic, which was held at Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park.

Hahnville’s Brandon Singleton was the star of the day.

Singleton entered the 110 meter hurdles as the top qualifier and didn’t disappoint in his final heat.

Singleton dominated the race, winning by .41 of a second. He currently has the second fastest time in the state courtesy of his 14.32 that he recorded in the preliminaries on Friday.

Fellow Tiger Evan Barbier placed third in the javelin with a throw of 167 – 04., while Lady Tiger Breanne Bias finished fourth in the girls’ triple jump.

Though she finished in fourth place, Bias was the top Louisiana performer with her leap of 36 – 02.

Hahnville twins Bryce and Beau Robinson finished second and third, respectively, in the 3200 meter run with times of 9:38 and 9:43.

Because of the performances by all five Tigers, another invitation was extended and they will all be attending the Mobile Challenge of Champions, hosted by St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, Ala. on Saturday, April 5.

The Tigers will be competing this week in New Iberia at Westgate High School.
