Arkansas left-handed pitcher Colin Poché, son of Norco natives Susan and Dan Poché, was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced on Monday afternoon by the league office.
The weekly honor is the first for an Arkansas baseball player this season. Poché became the first Razorback to be named SEC Freshman of the Week since Barrett Astin earned the honor on May 23, 2011.
A native of Flower Mound, Texas, Poché pitched in two games on the week and had a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA and seven strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work.
Poché made his collegiate debut in game one of Arkansas’ doubleheader vs. New Orleans last Tuesday. The freshman lefty tossed five shutout innings, only allowing one hit and striking out six to earn the win. Poché did not allow a hit until two outs in the fifth in his start vs. the Privateers.
Poché pitched out of the bullpen in the series finale vs. Evansville on Sunday. Poché struck out one and only allowed one hit in 2.1 scoreless innings. Poché entered in the fifth inning vs. the Purple Aces with the tying run on base and induced a soft line out to second to end the inning and keep the Razorbacks in front. Poché went on to throw two more scoreless innings and helped Arkansas complete a three-game sweep.
