Running for a cause

Over 1,500 runners and walkers participated in the 14th Annual United Way of St. Charles 5K Bridge Run/Walk.

Michael Kibits, a Kenyan athlete living in Alabama, was the first to finish the race with a 14:43 time.  Joining Kibits in the men’s division top three were Kyle Lewis and Ryan Wood.

Sara Skotty, from New Orleans, took first place in the women’s division with a 17:20 time.  Kate Accardo and Olga Markova placed second and third.

Jose Villalta and Pat Driscoll placed as the overall race walkers.  To view a complete list of the award winners, visit www.runnotc.org.  The race winners took home a combined prize money purse of $5,000.

“United Way of St. Charles is very pleased with the turnout this year given the competition our event had with other well known Louisiana festivals,” United Way of St. Charles Executive Director John Dias said.
