Perfect Destrehan rolls start to finish in win at Central Lafourche

Destrehan’s Kristian Mosley scored on a 68-yard run on the second play of Destrehan’s game at Central Lafourche and set the tone on a night his team moved to a perfect 7-0 this season with a 49-21 District 7-5A victory. The Wildcats (7-0, 4-0) led 42-7 at one point in the second half and 35-0 at halftime.

Terrill Vinnett was the catalyst on the defensive side of the ball for Destrehan. Vinnett intercepted three passes on the night, and Destrehan coach Stephen Robicheaux said he couldn’t recall the last time he’d seen a player match that effort.

“It’s been a long time at the very least since I’ve seen it,” Robicheaux said. “They weren’t having a lot of success running the ball, so they tried to throw it a good bit. Their quarterback’s had a good bit of success this year. But they put it up and Terrell was in the right place at the right time and made some really nice plays.”

Robicheaux said the Wildcats’ pressuring of Central Lafourche passer Jake Allemand was one of the keys to short-circuiting what had been a high-scoring offense this season.

“They were running a lot of empty formations, and we put a lot of pressure on the quarterback,” Robicheaux said. “Everything sort of clicked off that.”

On the offensive side of the ball, it was more of the same.

“Everything we tried was working,” Robicheaux said. “Our offensive line did a phenominal job and we got both Mosley and (John) Emery going. Both of them had really big nights.”

Destrehan remains tied with Thibodaux for the District 7-5A lead, both sporting perfect 4-0 marks in the league. The two teams meet in Week 9. Hahnville stands alone in second place with a 2-1 district mark.

Central Lafourche dropped to 4-3 overall, 0-3 in district play.
