Player of the Week
This week’s Off to College and Beyond Player of the Week is Xavier guard and DHS grad Mark Stewart who knocked down 13 three-pointers in the Gold Rush’s two victories this past week. He led the team with 28 points (7 of his scores three-pointers) to go along with 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal in the teams’ victory over Spring Hill last Thursday. He also had 18 points (all of them on 6 three-pointers), 2 assists, a rebounds and a steal in the team’s victory over Loyola on Saturday.

Eugene leads SMU to victories
Southern Miss guard and DHS grad Amber Eugene led the Lady Golden Eagles with 24 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block in the team’s victory over Memphis on Friday. She also tied for the team lead with 23 points to go along with 5 assists, a rebound, a block and a steal in their victory over Alabama-Birmingham on Sunday.

Reed gets 2 picks off Peyton
Baltimore Ravens’ safety and DHS grad Ed Reed victimized Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning twice on Saturday with 2 interceptions. He also had a tackle and 3 pass deflections in the team’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts in the Divisional playoff game.

Scifres keeps Patriots pinned
San Diego Chargers’ punter and DHS grad Mike Scifres pinned the New England Patriots inside their 20-yard line 5 times out of his 7 punts in the Chargers’ playoff loss on Sunday. He averaged 36.6 yards with no return on any of them.

Scott wins it for Lady Wolves
Copiah-Lincoln Community College guard and HHS grad Whitney Scott scored the winning 2-point jumper in the Lady Wolves’ 66-65 victory over Southwest Mississippi Community College last Thursday.

Basketball Notes
Mississippi College guard and DHS grad Jaszmine Eugene had 2 points, 3 rebounds and an assist in 2 games for the Choctaws’ this past week. Samford guard and DHS grad Trey Montgomery had 2 points in the Bulldogs’ loss to Tennessee State last Thursday. Belhaven guard and DHS grad Meagan Stock had 13 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 blocks and a steal in 2 games for the Lady Blazers last week. Loyola forward and HHS grad McArthur Strickland had 2 points and 3 rebounds in 2 games for the Wolfpack last week.

Football Notes
In the divisional playoffs on Saturday, Baltimore Ravens’ safety and HHS grad Dawan Landry had 3 tackles in their loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
