Hahnville improves to 9-1 with win
The Hahnville Lady Tigers used a home run by Hope Mair and a solid pitching performance by Hannah Haydel to beat Riverside Academy, 3-0, on Tuesday.
Hahnville (9-1) took the lead in the bottom of the first after Summer Melancon knocked a single past first base. Mair was up next and blasted a home run off of Riverside pitcher Destin Vicknair to give the Lady Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Haydel cruised through the first two innings on the mound, striking out the side in the first and putting Riverside down in order in the second. Riverside managed their first hit in the third, but Haydel forced a pop up to third and a grounder to short to end the threat.
Hahnville extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Taylor Hogan drew a walk to start the frame and advanced to second on a single by Alexandra Friloux. Both runners advanced a base due to a wild pitch, and Megan Bush brought Hogan home with a liner to left to put Hahnville up 3-0.
Friloux was tagged out at home after Bush’s hit and Vicknair got two strike outs to end the inning.
Haydel buckled down in the seventh, retiring the side in order to give Hahnville the win.
Haydel allowed three hits while striking out six in seven innings. The Lady Tigers scattered seven hits during the game.
Hahnville will travel to Bonnabel on Thursday for a 4 p.m. game and will host the Catfish Classic this weekend at the West Bank Bridge Park.
