Hahnville native Semaj Lewis is ticketed for the next level.
Lewis, a De La Salle senior cornerback, recently committed to Stephen F. Austin to continue his gridiron career at the Division I level. Lewis chose SFA over Jacksonville State, Northwestern State, Grambling and Southern, who had also extended offers.
He had also drawn interest from Tulane, Texas A&M, Missouri and Louisiana-Monroe. Lewis, the younger brother of former Destrehan High School star Jai Eugene, helped De La Salle reached the second round of the Division II playoffs last season. He intercepted three passes last season and also turned heads in track and field; he took first place in the LHSAA Division II indoor championship 60-meter dash, recording a time of 6.99 seconds.
