Lady Tigers fall to John Curtis in shootout championship

Destrehan finishes 2-2 in tournament

After cruising past Lutcher, Thibodaux and Warren Easton, the Hahnville Lady Tigers couldn’t hold on down the stretch as they fell 55-45 to John Curtis in the championship game of the St. Charles Shootout.

Curtis took a slim, 15-14 lead after the first quarter, but increased the margin to 27-23 at the break after outscoring the Lady Tigers 12-9 in the second quarter. Hahnville trailed 40-35 heading into the fourth, but Curtis pulled away in the final period for the 55-45 victory.

Derreyal Youngblood led Curtis to the win with 21 points, while Kolby Morgan added 10 points. The Lady Tigers were led by KaeLynn Boyd and Rickell Preston, who both finished with 15 points. Rea Fields added seven points, while Akira Zeringue finished with four points. Da’Janae Dunmiles and Taylor Weber both had two points.

Though Hahnville lost in the final, the Lady Tigers were impressive throughout the tournament. After knocking off Lutcher in the first round, Hahnville jumped all over Thibodaux for a 58-49 win and then crushed Warren Easton 54-37 to advance to the final.

Destrehan went 2-2 during the tournament, beating H.L. Bourgeois in the first round before falling to Mt. Carmel, 40-20 in their second game.

Destrehan then suffered a close, 50-45 loss to Terrebonne, but rebounded to destroy Thibodaux, 73-39.

Both Hahnville and Destrehan had two players selected to the all-tournament team. Boyd and Fields were named to the team from Hahnville, while Jordan Dabney and Kayla Smother were named to the all-tournament squad for Destrehan.
