Lady Tigers blank East St. John, 15-0

The Hahnville Lady Tigers shutout East St. John 15-0 at home on Tuesday night with multiple hits from freshman Sarah VanEtta in the first and second inning.

A solid pitching effort from senior Lauren Beadle also helped the Lady Tigers earn the win. Beadle had six strike outs over three innings and recorded a one hitter. Hahnville head coach Gerry Nugent said he felt his team played mistake free softball and were able to capitalize on some mistakes from their opponent.

The mercy rule was called after three innings of play.Before knocking off East St. John, the Lady Tigers held their own against three of the state’s top programs at Gore Park in Gonzales last weekend.

In game one the Lady Tigers defeated Brusly with a lopsided score of 19-9. Nugent said his hitters really came alive as Kelly Ortego hit two home runs and Maeson Martindale finished with three RBIs  Starting Pitcher Karly Taranto recorded the win.

Hahnville dropped game two to Denham Springs 10-3, but Nugent felt defensive mistakes in the fourth inning proved to be too much to overcome. Martindale led Hahnville from the plate with three hits. Starting pitcher Karly Taranto was charged with a loss.

The weekend ended on a positive note for the Lady Tigers taking down Dutchtown High School in extra innings. Pryscilla Prince had two home runs.

“The five runs in the eighth inning gave us the lead and the win.” Nugent said.

Pitcher Lauren Beadle recorded the win.

Coach Nugent was pleased with his team overall.

“I felt our pitchers our pitchers battled through some tough situations.” Nugent said.  “And I believe it will pay off later in the season. Our hitters proved in both wins that we have the ability to come from behind on anyone.”
