Lady Cats crush ESJ 17-0, knock off Ellender 10-5

The Destrehan Lady Cats won big against East St. John and Ellender last week with a real team effort in both victories.

On Tuesday, the Lady Cats shutout East St. John 17-0 with two runs in the first and a huge 14 run push in the second inning.

Runs scored on an RBI double from Junior Krista Robles, a RBI single from Junior Katie Brady, a two-run single by Tabitha Tab and an East St. John error brought Junior Amanda McNaughton in for the steal at home plate. A two-run single by senior Hailey Draughon, and a bases loaded walk for sophomore Julie Scheuermann finished up the second inning onslaught.

Carla Beck recorded the win inside the circle. The sophomore pitched three innings and allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

On Wednesday, DHS handed Ellender a 10-5 loss. The Lady Cats took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning off the bat of senior Morgan Foret who drove in freshman Kaela Schiro and sophomore Tabitha Tabb with a long fly ball to left field.

In the bottom of the fifth, Brady hit a hard ground ball to center field scoring Foret, and Draughon blasted a two-run dinger scoring Brady, while Junior Taylor Lucich advanced to home on a throw. Schiro advanced to home on a throw in the bottom of the sixth for the Lady Cats tenth run. Krista Robles recorded the win.

The junior hurler gave up seven hits, two earned runs in seven innings. She had six strikeouts and one walk.
