Hunting closure issued due to flooding

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Secretary Robert Barham has issued a Declaration of Emergency closing all hunting seasons, except waterfowl, in portions of southeast Louisiana due to flooding.

LDWF has determined that floodwaters in the area could pose a potential risk of overharvest and safety risk to the hunting public.

The closure applies to Elm Hall Wildlife Management Area and those portions of Louisiana south of Interstate 10, West of Interstate 310, North and West of Hwy. 90, East of Hwy. 70, and East of Hwy. 22.  This shall include portions of St. Mary, Assumption, Ascension, Lower St. Martin, Lafourche, Terrebonne, St. James, St. John and St. Charles parishes.

These areas will be closed to all hunting, except waterfowl, effective Dec. 18, 2009 until further notice.
