HHS trio to lead state against Mississippi

Three Hahnville High School football stars will try to help Louisiana dominate Mississippi this Saturday at the Who is the “Mann” Annual High School Classic, which takes place in Baton Rouge.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

Linebackers Ben Taylor and Linzell Rhodes will join offensive lineman Alvin Kelly in the all-star game that pits some of the best football players in the state against those in Mississippi. The Louisiana all-stars will be led by V. Vincent Mann Sr., who coached Jerry Rice at Mississippi Valley State University.

Taylor was a first team all-state selection and was also a member of the all-district and all-metro teams. He finished his senior season with 124 total tackles, which included 92 solo tackles and 32 assists. Taylor (5’11, 195) also had 11 tackles for loss, seven sacks, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and one pass breakup.

Kelly (6’3, 365) was also named first team all-district. A two-year starter, he gave plenty of push up front and allowed teammate Ahmad White to rush for more than 1,500 yards.

Rhodes (6’, 184), who was one of the top defensive players for the Tigers, moved from defensive end to linebacker for his senior season. Rhodes came through with plenty of big plays, and should be one of the quickest athletes on the field this Saturday.
