The Hahnville track trio of Breanne Bias, Beau Robinson and Bryce Robinson put an exclamation point on an indoor track season that can only be described as a complete success.
Even though none of the three were able to bring home a state title, they did bring back two silver medals and a bronze medal.
Bias finished in second place in the triple jump with a best of 35 feet, 2 inches. Her finishing total was only 7.25 inches behind the top qualifier, Rebekah Markel of Lafayette.
Bias, who was visibly limping after the first couple of jumps, endured through the pain to bring a second place finish and a silver medal back to Hahnville.
The night was not over for the Tigers as the Robinson brothers were competing in the second to last event of the night, the 3200 meter run.
Bryce and Beau Robinson came in to the event as the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds, respectively. The only runner ranked above them was freshman standout Eric Coston of St. Paul’s.
The twins took an early lead and held it until Coston began to pull away with 800 meters left. Coston took the gold with a time of 9:36, and that left the twins to fight it out till the last lap. Beau passed Bryce to finish in second place with a time of 9:43. Bryce finished right behind him with a time of 9:45.
Although they battled each other hard on the track, once they were across the line the brothers hugged each other.
“I didn’t push the pace as hard as I probably should have,” Bryce said after the race. “I told Beau he ran a smart race.”
After an outdoor track season last year that was spent recovering from injury, Beau was feeling good about his performances during the indoor season.
“I set a personal record of 10:00 in my sophomore year, and didn’t really improve on that at all last year. To break that personal record by 10 seconds (9:50 at the LSU High School Qualifier), and then lower it again by another 7 seconds today felt really good,” Beau said.
Although indoor track season is over, the work is just beginning as the Tigers will start their outdoor track season on March 13 at Chalmette.
The season ends with the outdoor championships in Baton Rouge on May 10.
